Creating horns for Halloween

Creating Horns for Halloween

I have decided to go at a devil for Halloween and finding this video of Shonagh Scott making her devil horns gave me the inspiration. I will be creating these horns myself to wear for Halloween.

HOW AMAZING

So I have been out and bought the Poly morph to start making these.
  • I have started by boiling water and filling a plastic tube with it.
  • Tipping a reasonable amount of Poly morph into the tub
  • wait for the poly morph to go clear and add some cold water to the tub so you can pick out some poly morph
  • take out a small bit of the poly morph sprout size and roll into a sausage shape
  • then push one end down to flatten it and start to point the other end and start to curve it a bit to create a horn shape
  • get a knife and start to carve lines to create some ridges into the horns
  • wait for it to cool and then start on the other horn get it the exact same as the other
  • After it has gone hard and cool start to paint the horn into a cream/bone colour
  • get a darker cream colour more yellowy and paint the bottom of the horn and in between the ridges

  • I stuck the horns on with spirit gum and used synthetic wax around them to keep them down and cover any gaps.
  • I used red cream paint around the bottom and added blood to give the effect the horns are coming out of my head.
Here is the end results.

I loved them and was excited to wear them but after wearing them for a while they stated to peel off as they was too heavy. So I thought of making a latex pair using the poly morph horns as a mold.

These where easier to wear and stayed on all night! Had such a good Halloween and everyone commented on how the horns looked.

Practice of Final design technical folder

Practice of Final Design Technical folder

Here is design 3 that I have practised and I like this one the most out of them all, but I know there is something missing from it I just don't know what.

The camera quality isn't that good of these images, and I also want a smooth finish to the face, so I would improve the technique I used on the face and use different brushes and blend more to give it a better finish.

Final idea face charts

Final face chart ideas
I have gone for quite a plain look as I have chosen my Bess as my lady in waiting. Here are my final ideas for the face charts.

Light and natural colours on the eyes with a pinky/orangey lip. I want a white base and a pink shimmery blush on the cheeks. White brushed through eyebrows.

I want a white dewy base, I want gold/bronzer eyes that blend close to the nose and down the sides. adding a bronze contour and a plain glossy lip. Brushing white paint through the brows.

I wanted a white shimmer base also a pinky dewy blush/contour, a pinky and natural blend onto the eyes and follows down the sides of the nose. White brushed through eyebrows and white mascara on the lashes. The lips would have a orangey tone to them.

These are my first initial ideas for the end look but I have decided I like this one the last one the best as I like the overall look of it.

Final Ideas.

Project ideas.

I have brainstormed my ideas together and came up with different ideas of what I want my final look to look like.

Here are some of my brainstormed ideas

Minimal pale face
Rosy or pink cheeks
White/light brushed through eyebrows
Rosy/pink lips
Dewy skin with matte eyes
Or Matte skin with dewy eyes
Pink/golden/natural coloured eyes
Glossy lips

White  mascara

theses are a few of my ideas I want to incorporate into my design, I have seen some images that have inspired me to decide this.
[1]
[2]

I love the smoothness of how the base looks on the skin, and the colour scheme of the make-up. The idea of a shimmer to the eyelid and pastel coloured blush to the cheeks. I thought I would use these ideas into my look but change them in my own way.

Givenchy backstage
[3]
Givenchy make-up looks flawless, this reminds me as Elizabethan make-up with the light eyebrows and white base. I like the pinky flesh coloured tones used and the shine to the base giving it a certain glow, I want to recreate this look adding my ideas into it.

Eyes and perfect lip

Eye Make-up and Perfect Lip

Consultation notes:
Name: Simona Gabriela
Age:19
Skin type: normal
Hair type: long brown
Skin tone: tanned
Eye colour: brown
Eyeshape: Even
Allergies/medication: N/A
Contraindications: N/A
Notes: use vaseline on the lips

Tools used:
Painterly mac chromeline
mac warm palette dark brown and orage red brown tone, cream nude shade
loreal mascara
Illamasqua woo lipliner
Mac Viva glam 2 listick

Today we learned eye make-up only, it was interesting learning different eye shapes and what suited different eyes. Simona had quite big eyes so I blended from the outer corner and into the crease with a dark brown and then used a cream/light nude onto the lids. This suited her really well and she even liked the end outcome, so I am very pleased with this and enjoyed learning about eye shapes.

Perfect Lip: I have gone with a natural colouring as I had gone with a natural eye look, I used a lip pencil all over the lips this was a nude colour (Illamasqua woo) I think used a flat small lip brush and using Mac Viva Glam 2 a followed the lip line around then all over the lip. The lip looks like their is hardly any product on which is the look I wanted to go for.

My Sugar Skull

Hair type: long brown
Skin tone: tanned
Eye colour: brown
Eyeshape: Even
Allergies/medication: N/A

These are my Sugar skull looks.
Products used:
Illamasqua skin base 001, Illamasqua Setting powder, Kryolan cream black eyes lips nose and Kryolan cream purple for eyes, Loreal bronzer 00 as contour. Gems stuck on using spirit gum. Black mascara.

I loved the final look, I just found it tricky doing the detailing with the gems and trying to stick them on to the face without dropping them or getting the spirit gum all over the tweezers and my fingers, but it all worked out in the end, If I could change anything I would have practiced sticking and hold small gems with the tweezers before I tried this final look. I really enjoyed doing this look and loved the end results of it.

What would Bess of Hardwick characteristics and looks be?

What could I imagine Bess of Hardwick to look like?
Since she was second richest women after the Queen I believe she would follow all the trends that where about in that era.

-pale face
-rouge lips and cheeks
-light/no eyebrows
- light/red hair
-curly/frizzy hair
-wearing extravagant clothes
-Jewels
-very pretty
-Young looking
-innocent looking

What would her characteristics be?

I believe Bess is a gold digger and even though she looks innocent she has an evil side to her which I believe she plotted to poison her husband. She can't get enough to of money since she was poor at the beginning she has had a taste of wealth and wants more.

I have chosen to make her look simple as I want her to look pretty with plain makeup. I want the backdrop of the picture to be black and the light to shine onto her, while she is doing and innocent pose but has a hard look into her eyes. Going to have to practice this pose I think this will just pull all the traits of her together.

Bess of Hardwick

Bess of Hardwick (1521-1607) started off as a relatively poor woman but gained wealth by marriage. Bess married 4 times and had 6 surviving children, She was appointed as a Lady in Waiting for Queen Elizabeth this was a good place for her to find another suitable husband as the first two husbands had passed away. She was then married for the third time, this husband took on her previous marriage debts, but 5 years into the marriage he also died and left all his lands to Bess. Bess was then married for the fourth time. It was lead that Bess had poisoned one of her husbands and was having an affair with his brother but this was never proven.

Sugar Skull Inspo

Sugar Skull Inspo

First of all before I start with the sugar skulls I best start with where they originate from.

Day Of The Dead
In Southern Mexico their is a holiday on November 1 & 2 which honours the death of loved ones. Their is a belief that the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31st (Halloween) and the spirits of all the deceased can reunite with their families and lovers. Sugar skulls where actual moulds of clay and sugar as the people couldn't afford to create expensive ornament and decorations for their dead ones. 'Sugar skulls represented a departed soul, had the name written on the forehead and was placed on the home ofrenda or gravestone to honour the return of a particular spirit. Sugar skull art reflects the folk art style of big happy smiles, colourful icing and sparkly tin and glittery adornments. - See more at: http://www.mexicansugarskull.com/support/dodhistory.html#sthash.roV0Fahv.dpuf'

The sugar skull has inspired make-up and most people on Halloween love this look. I have found some inspiration from the make-up artists that I follow on Instagram.

[1]
I love the normal foundation underneath and then the white as the lines of the swirls and skull, it just makes everything stand out
[2]

I like the head piece on this sugar skull this is something I want to add to my sugar skull something like a Flower Headband, I also like the Jews added around the eyes and onto the face.
[3]

I like the studs on this skull look, it gives it that edgy look and the blend on that cheek bone wow! I like the idea of gems onto the lips to look like skeleton teeth. The face isn't too white which I like and then white teeth added.

[2]
I love the colours, the use of baby pink which matches the flowered hair band is outstanding. The pastel colours just mix together so well and the different colours of the gems around the eyes is a good idea which I want to incorporate into my sugar skull.

Lady's in waiting

Today we got given our Lady's in Waiting and got the choice out of 9.

What is a Lady in Waiting?
A Lady in Waiting is a lady who serve the Royal women wether it be a Queen/Princess or a high ranking noble woman. They where not so called servants but they where know as 'noble companions' and trusted.

Lady's in Waiting where the women who are the women most closest to Queen Elizabeth. There are different types of Lady's in Waiting;

The highest level- this was he Royal lady in waiting which were chosen from the most noble women in England. These where unpaid Ladies but gained noble status.

Lady's of the Bed chamber- these saw to the Queens intimate needs.

Maids of Honour- an unmarried lady in waiting

These women would gain status and the Queen would choose suitable men for the ladies to marry, she would also choose what the women would wear, dictating the materials and furs they could wear.

My Portrait

So the Elizabethan portraits basically had a backing story to them and involved something that was going on at the time, I have picked this portrait as Elizabeth as a example;

Elizabeth I (Armada Portrait).jpg
Unknown.1558.Armarda Portrait [digital image] [24/10/15] available from:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armada_Portrait

I have decided this to be my portrait.
This portrait is a perfect interpretation of my University life so far, so my story behind this portrait is the fact I am outside in the country side is the fact I am from a big city (Liverpool) and have came to Southampton there seems to be much more nature about that from where I am from so that represents the more 'outdoorsy' Southampton is. The paint on my face represents the make-up course I am on and the artistic ways of the course. The paint on my clothes are the messy and laziness I have become as a student so my 'norm' is just throwing on un-ironed clothes which probably won't have been washed (sorry). Oh and the alcohol in my hand represents the cheap student nights that have taken over my life, while I have been down here I think I have already drank a whole oceans worth.. So this is my portrait and the story of my student life behind it. Also a shout out to my friend Amy for taking my excellent portrait.

What would Queen Elizabeth look like today

What would Queen Elizabeth look like today?

I spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking for inspiration and I have scrolled across this image of Queen Elizabeth and what she would look like today and it got me thinking what would her make-up be like with all the new and different styles and techniques so I have decided I am going to choose what I believe what her make-up would look like now a days.
ABOVE: Elizabeth IA powerful no-nonsense female leader, Elizabeth might have straightened her hair in a powerful yet stylish short cropped style.Known for her love of fashion, she would be more likely to wear a bespoke stylish and unique female suit made with rich colours and material.Rarely pictured smiling, Queen Elizabeth exudes power in the modern day portrait, and hides her new veneers purchased to disguise her notoriously bad teeth.

anon.n.d.unknown [digital image] [22/10/15] available from: http://tx.english-ch.com/teacher/karis/level-b/topic-makeup-for-matured-skin/

I  believe she would use a good amount of make-up as she liked to cover her age with make-up, I think she would have a good amount of blusher as well to keep it similar to the Elizabeth blush. She would have fair eyebrows still not too dark or heavy. She would have a nice pink gloss colour to the lips and hardly and make-up on the eyes.

Make-up for older women

Key points of how to get flawless make-up  for older women

  • Moisturising hydrates the skin more, when the skins hydrated it is more plumper and fresh.
  • Exfoliate if you have flaky skin or dry skin
  • Use a primer it gives a smoother look
  • Making sure you choose the right foundation, their are foundations which a better for mature skin
  • Use lip gloss it helps to make the lips look plumper
  • Stay clear from dark lip sticks
  • Use pencil eye liner instead of liquid as the liquid is harsher on ageing eyes and the pencil is easier to smudge
  • Make your eyes the centre of attention
  • Use a highlighter, helps lift your face
  • You can lightly contour the face
  • Go for the natural look
  • Using eyelash curlers to intensify the lashes
  • Add a bit of blusher, to bring a bit of colour to the face
  • Make sure you blend your make-up well
  • Use a rich under eye cream of a night
  • Older women tend to have dry skin, so stick to creams
  • Prevent wrinkles, wear sunscreen and sunglasses if out in the sun
  • Keep bottom eye lids bare and light to help with droopy eye lids
  • Use a brow pencil to make brows fuller
  • Find a great skin care routine which best suits your skin

Monocromatic Contouring

Monochromatic Contouring

Consultation notes:
Name: Megan keepence
Age:18
Skin type: dry
Hair type: short light brown
Skin tone: pale
Eye colour: blue
Eyeshape: Even
Allergies/medication: N/A
Contraindications: N/A
Notes: moisturise skin more as quite dry.

tools used:
Brushes.
Eyeshadows. Small round fluffy blending brush for blending the blue. flat eye shadow brush to add the white shadow onto the lids. short round brush for adding the blue.
Face. Flat foundation brush to add the foundation. Big round thick blending brush to blend the foundation lines. Big Fluffy powder brush to add the power. Blusher brush to add the contour. small face brush to add the highlighting.
Lips. Normal lip brush.
Eyelashes. Small flat brush.
Eyebrows. Mascara wand
Kryolan eyeshadow palette light blue, medium blue. dark blue
illamsqua 001 skin base
settong powder
mac cyan lip mix

Working from our face charts and creating something from my face chart and putting it onto the face was exciting. I have chosen the blue shades as I think its has a nice range and also I bought some new eye shadows that where blue and wanted to try them out.

I wanted to cover the face with a lot of contour starting with the light blue then adding darker blues where I needed a darker shade.
On the left side of the face chart you can see the products I wanted to use and have used to create the image onto the face.
While doing the models face I decided against the blue mascara and chose to do white aqua paint as I thought it would make it stand out more and didn't want to overload the face with blue.

End Results
I started the face first big mistake! I will explain what happened further down the blog.
Illamasqua skin base foundation 001 was added onto the eyes upto the brow and all over the eyelid.
I then went over with a light dusting of Illamasqua setting powder.
Next I added the light blue eye shadow from the kryolan colour palette and added this into the crease and blending it outwards.
Next I added a medium tone blue to the outer corner of the crease and blended that into the crease.
I done the same again only now with a dark blue but only added it slightly.
I then went under the eye with all the blues starting with the lightest to darkest blending them out each time.
I the added Illamasqua eyeshadow in Sex and added that onto the lid of the eye and blended it towards the inner of the eye. I also added this onto the brow bone.
I then wiped away underneath the eye to neaten it up and give it a sharp line.
I then started the base adding Illamasqua skin base 001 all over the face being careful around the eyes making sure I didn't go over any of the eye shadow.
I then added Powder over the face to set the base, using Illamasqua Setting powder.
I added Illamasqua eye shadow Sex to everywhere I would highlight the face (onto cheekbones, forehead, down middle of nose, chin, jawline)
Start with the light blue eye shadow and start to contour under the cheekbones, temples, under jawling and onto neck, down the sides of the nose, on the cupids bow and slightly on the chin.
I then done the same but added the meduim blue then the darker blue but adding slightly each time then building up.
I added MAC Lip Mix in Cyan onto the lips.
I used the Kryolan aqua palette and got white paint onto a flat brush and painted onto the lashes.
I used a mascara wand and got the blue out of the aqua palette and brush lightly over the eyebrow hair.
My look was the finished.

I think I done quite well I done it in the amount of time I was give (45mins). I could have had more time to do more details but I had to rush the end as I had done the foundation first and then started the eyes, the blue eye shadow dropped down onto the face and wouldn't wipe away, so after I had done the eyes I had to wipe the foundation off and restart the base again which cost me a few minutes. Nest time I will start the eyes first is it is heavy eye make-up. Other than that I am happy with the end results.

Gucci Catwalk Fall 2012

Gucci Catwalk Fall 2012

I have been researching Catwalks that have been inspired by Elizabethan make-up. I have found Gucci Fall 2012 and the make-up is stunning, the Elizabethan influences would be the white base and the no eyebrows. I like the dark red lip against the white complexion it makes the lips stand out.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2015

I have seen these images of Alexander McQueen Fall catwalk and this screams Elizabethan Influence all over, I love the orange/natural tones onto the pale/white base this is something I want to try out for my Elizabethan look. Also the white eye liner on the water line making the eyes look bigger is giving me ideas.

Illamasqua Once

Illamasqua Once

As I just love Alex Box her make-up is amazing and I have always loved this make-up design since it first came out in 2014. It has so many Elizabethan make-up references and is so inspiring.

Illamasqua- Once Collection
[1]

[1]
This gives of the Elizabethan theme with the white base, the rosy blush on the cheeks and the light coloured eyebrows. This make-up reminds me of purity and I love how flawless it looks. It not only the make-up that gives it the Elizabethan feel its the whole image from the clothing, hair and the way the image is taken even reminds me of a portrait. This has gave me some good ideas for my final piece. I am going to try this make-up and see what products worked well and what I liked about the final look.

Portraits that look similar
[2]
I think this portrait looks really similar to the Once Illamasqua images, with the make-up being similar with the white base and the pink like blusher, light looking eyebrows, some colour to the lips and the eyes looking a bit rounded.
